GA Support for Replication Assisted vMotion
The highlight of the R129 Service Update is GA Support for Replication Assisted vMotion.
If you missed the Replication Assisted vMotion announcements at VMworld, you can start with this announcement blog.
Prior to this GA update, Replication Assisted vMotion carried a higher vSphere minimum version requirement. VMware Cloud on AWS environments satisfied this requirement early on, and thus the feature was initially previewed in VMware Cloud on AWS as Cloud Motion. As of the R129 update, the requirement aligns with the minimal vSphere requirement for HCX at the destination.
Note: The GA Support of Replication Assisted vMotion is for consumers of HCX Enterprise via NSX DC Enterprise+ (private to private HCX deployments)
Updates to OS Assisted Migrations (OSAM)
If you don’t know what OSAM, start with this blog.
With the R129 update, Ubuntu 16.04 LTS (64-bit) and Ubuntu 18.04 LTS (64-bit) were added to the supported OS list for KVM hypervisors.
For more detailed HCX OSAM requirements, see this page.
Updates to the HCX Cmdlets in PowerCLI 11.5.0
The VMware PowerCLI 11.5.0 release is now GA with an update to HCX cmdlets. Support for RAV and OSAM migration types is included with this release.
(From the PowerCLI changelog)
Edit
The VMware.VimAutomation.Hcx
module has been updated to support Replication Assisted vMotion (RAV) and OS Assisted Migration (OSAM).
