HCX 4.9.1 Maintenance Release

HCX 4.9.1 Maintenance Release

Released today (Monday, May 20). Read the official release note here

I always recommend running the latest maintenance for maximum stability. This time I extra recommend this if:

  • you deploy or plan to deploy multiple mobility meshes for large cluster evac,
  • if you are using a site paired V topology.
  • if if you’re using Mobility Optimized Networking & fully automated DRS (not a best practice during migration)
  • if you’re experienced unexpected HA switchover due to minimal environmental packet loss.

What was fixed?

PR/3360630 Mobility Agent (Cold/vMotion) migrations fail with the error “vMotion failed, authenticity of the certificate is not verified”.

PR/3377085 OpenSSL update to address CVE-2022-2068

PR/3314879 A defect causing errors affecting Kafka (platform services) startup

PR/3374720 Fixed a problem causing MON virtual machine routes to be removed after a DRS relocation.

PR/3382589 We resolved a problem that caused MON static routes to be removed when DRS relocation completion events are not received within the dampening timer.

PR/3067779 Compute Profile edit fails with the error “Compute Profiles are used by other Service Mesh paired with the same compute profile”.

What else changed?

The Network Extension HA configuration is slightly changed to reduce false positives:

  • The heartbeat frequency is 250ms (previously 500ms)
  • The system now requires 6 lost heartbeats to declare an active down event.
  • The effective failover threshold remains.

See Broadcom KB 367619 for more details.

Announcements

deprecation of connect.hcx.vmware.com & hybidity-depot.vmware.com

HCX from day 1 has been a bit of a hybrid with some functions residing in VMware hosted endpoints (*.vmware.com). The services provide activation & entitlement functions, and some enhanced support capabilities. These endpoints are now deprecated, and will be retired in a future release.

Live systems currently making connections to these endpoints will be transitioned away as the corresponding/required functions are made available locally.
